Foam in dishwasher; not finishing cycle

My Whirlpool dishwasher is stopping with 25 minutes left. I give it a few minutes but it doesn't continue. I open the door and the contents are washed but there is foam at the bottom (see attached pic). It is just out of warranty (two years). I haven't used different tablets and have been using the same rinse aid. Plenty salt in it too. It has just started happening all of a sudden. It was stopping before with 50 minutes left but has stopped doing that, now it is happening with 25 minutes left. I had the engineer out about that issue and he found nothing wrong, it went away by itself but is now doing it at 25 minutes left. I don't see the point in getting him to look at this also; I will have to pay another 60 euro too.

When I put a wash on last thing at night it has finished in the morning, I assume it is stopping with 25 minutes left that time also but probably starts up again after the foam/suds has dissolved. But I can't wait for that to happen in the daytime. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

I was going to ask if you checked the filter, but since you had a professional to look at it, this probably has been done.

The dishwasher detergent shouldn't create any foam. Is there any possibility that someone put washing up liquid in the rinse aid receptacle?

Check the waste outlet too. Sometimes the pipe gets blocked at the drain if lots of leaves or moss gets washed in.

Does it drain at all? Set the quick-wash program and close the door. The pump should come on to drain off any residue water from the base. Open the door every 30 seconds and look to see if the water drains at all. If it's not draining, it might be a pump.

There is also a float mechanism in the side of the washer, it determines the water level during a cycle and this can either become clogged (not letting water in to the float and consequently overfilling the dishwasher) or stuck in position and not letting the washer fill. It's not easily serviceable thought, it's behind the panels.

Thanks for the replies; I found out what the problem was; my mother put washing up liquid instead of Rinse Aid into it when she was here. By pure chance I caught her doing it yesterday so she must have done it before. I just have to wait until the Rinse container empties out and it should be OK then.

It is actually finishing the cycle; it stalls at 25 minutes left but that is because the washing up liquid is creating foam so the sensor thinks it is still washing I suppose.
