    Hi folks.

Hope somebody can offer me some help here. My water used to be limescale free but about 5 years ago that all changed. Now my shower is giving problems would it be a huge job to take out electric shower and put in a pumped one heated by an immersion?

You would need a hot water supply pipe from your hot water cylinder - is that close? Could it come down the wall behind the shower possibly?

Much better shower experience than electric!

If your electric shower is giving you issues ,washing machine and kettle wont be far behind . Water treatment on the cold water feed coming into house sounds more like what you need.

A rain shower is handy with the big emersion tank and you get soaked in a short time.

My pump is giving issues on running every 20 secs or so so i power it off and switch it it on when i need the shower.

I also have the backup of a Triton shower when other shower gives issue. This shower has a water filter in feed and your one might be getting blocked?

Installing a water softening system is the best way forward if you have a lot of limescale. As mentioned above you will also have limescale issues with you immersion, washing machine, dishwasher etc.

Changing from an electric shower to a power shower is a big enough job & requires a plumber & electrician. Your 40 amp RCBO is too big for a power shower & needs to be changed by an electrician. Even the cable going to the shower is too big & should be replaced from the pull cord switch to the shower itself. I would suggest a ballpark of €1000 to supply & fit a power shower like a Triton Novel SR if doing it properly & safely. You will get someone to do it cheaper BUT they will try tell you that an electrician isn't required when they definitely are

Electric shower puts out 3 to 5 litres of warm water per minute. Power shower is around 14 LPM. This means that a 5 minute power shower uses 70 litres of warm water & an electric shower uses around 20 litres of warm water. You pay to heat this warm water. It's cheaper to heat the water with an electric shower compared to using an electric immersion. The 5 minute power shower is 3 or 4 times more expensive then the 5 minute electric shower though it's more pleasurable to have a power shower.

Pump running like that usually means you either have a leak or the pressure vessel in the pump needs to be pressurized properly.
