Netflix no longer working on Vodafone TV and subtitles not working on BBC 4

We are with Vodafone TV (TV & Broadband). Sometime in the last month or so Netflix stopped working on it. When I click the Netflix button on the remote nothing happens and when I go to the channel Netflix was showing on I just see the message "This shortcut is no longer available".

Also I notice that subtitles no longer work on BBC 4, which is disappointing because I used them for some programs.

Anyone else seeing this or have any idea what's going on? I have no received any communication from Vodafone about this. Thanks.

As above, I've noticed that the Netflix button or the channel on the epg for Netflix doesn't work any longer. But I've found it can still be accessed by pressing the MENU button, scroll across to APPS, then down and right to the Netflix app.

Just went to use Netflix today and it’s gone from this menu now. It was there yesterday.

My parents also have this problem, did anyone here from Vodafone about this or get it fixed?

Exactly same here, button stopped working a few weeks ago and then yesterday Netflix disappeared from menu apps. Did anyone hear back from Vodafone?

I contacted Vodafone, they say Netflix is no longer available via their Vodafone TV service. The only other option is to download the Netflix app if you have a smart tv, which I don't have. I would not mind but I only re-subscribed to Netflix nine days ago. Now I only watch on laptop or mobile.

Thanks Ramillo. Pretty poor that there was no communication from Vodafone about this given, I imagine, this is a service that lots of Vodafone TV subscribers use.

Seems unfortunately there’s been a falling out between Netflix and Vodafone.

There are a whole pile of other devices you can use to get Netflix on your TV, including a Now Smart Stick at the princely sum of a tenner, if you can still find one that is. If not a Chromecast is also fairly cheap and a Fire TV stick not much more than that.

Thanks @icdg. Does the Netflix App come on the Now TV stick or do you ahve to install it on the stick?

Should be preinstalled, according to this:

    hello,

we had the issue with netflix not working as well. Got onto them and if you stick to your guns and say they broke terms of service as the app was installed and working at start of my contract., they allowed me to change contracts to a diffrent provider that does have netflix app without penalty.

had to request case number for com reg before i got anywhere though.

netflix did not renew a deal they had with vodafone is the reason i was told by them.

    good luck all

netflix did not renew a deal they had with vodafone is the reason i was told by them.

Thanks @MrPint , that is fair enough, this happens in business. But Vodafone then not telling their TV customers that the service is no longer available is a very shoddy way to treat customers IMO.

As a matter of interest what provider did you switch to if you don't mind sharing and why did they have to allow it - were you locked into you Vodafone contract for some period?

I recommend Apple TV 4k. It supports all the streaming apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, RTE Player etc. The Irish market for proprietary ISP or Smart TV hardware is too small to ensure that all streaming apps will be supported into the future, as you have discovered with Vodafone. It is probably better to go with a big name product such as Apple to ensure support in the future. If you get out of your Vodafone contract and change your ISP to Eir, you can also run the Eir TV app on the same box, which will give you regular broadcast channels on the Apple TV box for €9.99pm. Eir don't advertise it, but you can do multiroom at no extra monthly cost if you buy additional Apple TV boxes yourself. (You get the first box free with the €9.99 suscription). I am not a big fan of Apple generally as their products are mostly overpriced. However, they were late to the TV market and they undercut their competitors with a reasonably priced TV box. Eir actually sell refurbished models for €59.99, which are fine. The eir TV app running on the Apple TV box does cloud recording unlike legacy boxes such as Vodafone which still have hard disks. It also works well over WiFi, so no need to run cable to each TV.

Apple TV really is the best. I have two of them myself. It unfortunately comes with a price tag to match. May be worth it if you’re an Apple user for the screen mirroring / Airplay features. If not there are cheaper alternatives. The Fire stick does most of the same stuff and runs most of the same apps at a much cheaper price (new that is, if you really want an Apple TV at a cheaper price the second hand one from eir is an option).

Beware cloud recording! Both platforms that rely on it (eir and Sky Stream) come with limitations about what can be recorded. You may or may not be able to live with them.
