I've an old Audi TT that I want to put on classic policy.

It's been declared off the road since 2019. I've nct booked but can seem to find a company who will put it on cover prior to nct being in place.

I plan to drive it to nct as opposed to having to trailer it as that might cost as much as a years insurance.

Anyone know the best company for the likes of that.

Can't see any insurance company wanting to insure a deathtrap.

Had the same issue with my 20 year old golf. Cover in a click would, after Fbd and axa said no even after I filled out all their forms.

    Was the tax straight forward?

First problem you have is a lot of companies have shifted to cars needing to be 25 years of age. First Ireland are quoting on my brothers 20 year old E46 - but they've clamped down massively on the policy. Needs to provide a NCT cert and a live NCB from his main policy before its covered - they barely asked for the reg number a few years back!

Have you tried Campions? They insure classic cars that are 20 years or over. I have two classics insured with them, and they never asked about NCT status on either of them. They are also very reasonable money wise.

A delayed response but I did manage to get the car on the road in the end.

Title of thread should read 23 year old car.

I had tried first ireland a few times and always required test or letter from simi garage confirming that car is road worthy.

Eventually I figured the garage report was best option to get cover to then drive it to test. Got the report from garage. Rang first ireland...... Oh we don't need that anymore but we need a booking date for nct. Cover put in place there and then.

They did put pressure on re getting test and I found different reps would contact me and even after I uploaded nct cert, I still got different staff contacting me threatening to withdraw cover if nct not uploaded. That was poor but overall insured on limited mileage policy for 250 quid or so. I

    Good to know. Good luck.

Couple of questions if you dont mind pls. What mileage is limited mileage? 3,000km 5,000km? No commuting either I suppose?

It's possibly 4k km but I'd have to get policy out to check.

I won't reach 500 km for the year so not paying too much heed to that.

I know there was an option for a slightly increased mileage limit for a small increase in price.
