I noticed that there is no thread on that one and according to stats from SIMI there have been quite a few those in Ireland. I had a chance to drive one and I really liked 22kW A/C charging on it and really neat HUD.

22kw charging is nothing new. Nissan have it, Tesla had it in 2012 and a host of others have it now.

It’s great that more manufacturers are now including, especially as standard, but don’t let it overcome you.

Its for use in Lidl, street posts etc and great if you have 3 phase connection at home.

I think it is option in this car, but it did impress me a lot. Obviously it depends on personal circumstances but in my experience it reduced need for DC charging significantly - way more than I expected.

It is called "AC Charging Professional", BMW is not that generous with what they put in standard.

Have you checked this option i mentioned above?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Agh ok, so the max AC charging is 22kw, but it’s 11kw unless you pay bmw €1080 to unlock the 22kw feature. That’s very bad from from bmw but no unexpected I suppose. The Germans want your money.

Handy, but I don’t know if I’d pay 1100 for it.

If you go to configurator then they explain it in description of this option I mentioned earlier.

Yes edited now. I see what you mean. Rip off at its finest.

So they give you the hardware but charge you to enable it

I think there is something like that with heated steering wheel in BMW, but I wonder if someone with 11kW car could confirm they have option to purchase it in the app.

This is becoming more and more standard. Its not just BMW that do it. The hardware is installed but it costs money to activate.

It is worth noting that when you are buying new, understand what hardware is installed and what functions can be enabled via software later (especially in ICE cars with high VRT). If you opt for it at the initial purchase then you pay VRT on it but if you do a software upgrade after purchase then you dont pay VRT. (The manufacturer may charge more though so beware).

Its happening more and more with stuff like adaptive cruise. The cars will usually have the radar installed for emergency collision detection anyway so its easy to turn on the cruise via a (paid) software update.

BMW are going mad into subscription services too which is just nuts.

The IX1 is on the Mini clubman platform I think. If you compare it to the iX3 initially the iX3 looks way more expensive but once you config the iX1 up to the same level as a standard iX3 they are pretty much the same price.

I was able to reach 129kW at 12% SOC and it tapered to 119kW at 49% SOC where I stopped charging. It does include charging in route planning and gives recommended SOC levels to finish charging. Like Tesla it will precondition battery when routing to DC charger, but it also has option in menu to do this on demand.

I think range would be 270-370km depending on mix of motorways and country roads. It seems that shape is not ideal for cruising at 120km/h.

Family member interested in one of these. The new 20e model. It’s a single motor rear wheel drive.

anybody got iX1 on here or have any opinions?

Picked up the BMW iX1 and wondering if there are any other owners in the forums? So far so good but it's early days.

Have been driving an ID4 since 2021 so the interior is a change for sure.
