    Fellow muso's,

What has happened to the live original band gig market.

We are a 3 piece (AilmentZ) based out of Waterford and for love nor money, we are struggling to get a gig, even a support slot. We all played in bands 20+ years ago and the scene was so so different. There were numerous venues with a take the door after a "token" surety to the venue attitude. That was fair considering.

We have a set, numerous tracks recorded and willing to play support for nought, just to get out there but there is not a single venue doing it down here. Tried Cork too but no replies either. Is Dublin just as hard? We have sent off to the smaller festivals around the country and still get the polite PFO's back.

Not looking to take on the world or anything like that, just have a bit of craic playing. The very few gigs that do go on locally are the same bands, who seem to just rotate the "headline" but to crowds so small it's not worth it. Fair play to them for trying but it seems so disheartening.

I can understand venues not willing to take a chance as it all boils down to pints sold to make it worth their while. They want covers bands and fair enough for that reason but someone has to stand up otherwise it will just die another death.

When it comes to airplay, the Nationals have no interest and even down to the local regional stations, but unless we are playing Country n' Irish, or The Eagles, they've no interest, despite what they claim. We have come across some small old style "Pirate" stations, run from bedrooms and tbh, they can't do enough for us, which is fantastic.

Any original bands on here seeing the same thing or with possible solution, feel free to comment.

    Rant over :-)
