    The key findings in the report include:

    • Bullying, harassment, discrimination and sexual harassment continue in the Defence Forces today, with increased reports of sexual harassment among serving members;
    • Women in the Defence Forces have low status, with the organisation displaying “pockets of misogyny” and a hypermasculine culture;
    • The working environment is not safe for men or women, and doesn’t take into account the principles of dignity, equality, mutual respect and duty of care;
    • A strong lack of trust in leadership — 50% of respondents were not satisfied with management;
    • Cadets, women, the lower ranks and those who challenge are at risk from predatory older members;
    • Members didn’t trust in complaints procedures and those responsible for dealing with them;
    • Most respondents never made a formal complaint about their harassment, bullying, sexual harassment or sexual assault – retaliation meant making a complaint was considered career-ending;
    • ‘Officers investigating officers’ cannot be allowed to continue, and this will require a total overhaul of the complaints procedure.

    To be honest, I would have always assumed that the Defence Forces would have a 'macho' culture, that training would be difficult, discipline tight and that you'd be ordered about and shouted at. That's how armies operate, it's not like taking up a clerical officer job in the local authority.

    Obviously the findings concerning sexual assault are abhorrent. Those who perpetrated these should be rooted out and dismissed/ pensions reduced or cancelled. But a lot of the rest of what we're hearing sounds par for the course and what you'd kinda expect. It's not a normal job.

    Good point Furze. Not a career foe wimps.

    You've talked some shite in the past here before JBW and I have lobbied, and failed, to get you banned for it.

    But that comment is a new low.

    Career for wimps? We are talking, among other criminal behaviours, about the documented physical and sexual assault of serving personnel, in the course of their ordinary duties, training and deployments. Not to mention the adverse career effects of trying to seek justice for those assaults, or even the retribution on female personnel for daring to do something as egregious as to have a baby.

    You're an ignorant, trolling little shitehawk Johnny and you need to **** off now permanently.

    Now, lets deal with the speculation and assumptions by acknowledging that the Government has seen enough to immediately move to the establishment of a Statutory Public Inquiry into these matters and ask everyone to, instead of spouting crap, simply to read the IRG report below.

    You fail to have read that I agree with everything said by the poster including abhorrent serial mistreatment. So get off your high horse.

    You are putting words into my mouth which I did not say. I do not condone sexual abuse or bullying and was in agreement with previous poster who stated that the DF is not the career for people who do not like discipline, being shouted at, being ordered about. Simple. So get off your high horse and take an anger management course....
