Hi all, maybe not much to work here with but just drove by a bird with a black head and white ringed neck and it appeared to have red or yellow on its back. Smaller than a magpie but bigger than a woodpecker (of which there are plenty in the area). I’m in Wexford.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Was it a woodpecker?

Nope, didn’t look like a woodpecker, was bigger. There are loads of woodpeckers round here so I’m well used to what they look like.

Jay? Colouring does not quite match and it can be difficult to see in flight but size and habitat does.
