Have to paint about 9 external Concrete windows sills, where the paint has bubbled and cracked. What is the best paint to use, and should I need to apply some sort of a primer first like peel stop? Any advice is appreciated.

Please not PVA. PVA is not for outdoor use.

Use a proprietary masonry paint primer and undercoat. Others will water down the paint by up to 30% and then use that, but you might get better results with an application specific masonry primer.

I had this issue when we moved into our house as the paint on the sill was peeling. We were advised to use a stabilising primer to first before painting. We have had no problems with peeling since.

Apparently its something to do with a reaction to an agents used in making the concrete that reacts with normal paint.

Scrape down, add Owatrol oil to the first coat, then just regular paint on top.

After Primer and all that, what paint do you use? Weathershield or some such other brand, or is their a Sill paint?

I've used Weathershield and other cheap stuff and end up having to touch up or repaint every year.

My old man used to use Gloss on his and they always looked well, probably painted them twice a year.
