Does anyone know anywhere to buy Anchor Steam Beer in Ireland? They used to stock it in my local Tesco but it appears it has been discontinued and it is getting harder and harder to find.

Any good off licence will probably order it from a distributer for you, if the distributer has it in their portfolio.

The problem with it is that it's a fairly mundane beer, and probably doesn't sell.

I've had success with ordering non-stock items from McHugh's before.

Grand Cru Beers is/was the distributor but I think it may be off their list at the moment, though it's still on their website. Management at any of the good beer off licences would be able to tell you for sure.

One drinker's mundane is another drinker's timeless classic, Hodors 😊

    haha yeah I know!

I wonder how old those bottles are in that carryout, wherever it is.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try contacting an off licence to see if they can help. I will have to strongly disagree with assessment of mundane though! 😊

It's a classic for me anyway! Haven't seen it for a while alright.

Last time i seen it was in Obriens, i was over in San Fran last October and got a couple of bottles for nostalgia around Christmas.

Its far better than mundane, but well below amazeballs...

Redmonds in Ranelagh had it last time I was in and their website states that they stock Anchor - http://www.redmonds.ie/craft-beer-specialists-in-dublin

I’m fairly certain the Blackrock Cellar stock it too… and I think I’ve seen it in O’Brien’s in Sandyford Industrial Estate.

I'll not miss it. It was a grand beer, but certainly not worth shipping all the way from California to here.

Dang, I'll miss it in a small way. I use to buy a few bottles for my birthday or get a few in for Christmas - think Tesco originally sold 4 for a tenner, then €2.95 a bottle under the minimum price malarkey.

Not surprised the brewery's closing, SF is getting wiped out with big name closures since C19 - hardly any named stores operating on Market St or the general Downtown area. (Wife hails from the Bay Area and we visited regularly over the past 20 years, of no interest anymore - her remaining brothers moved out of California years ago)

I'm surprised they cited lockdowns as putting pressure on their bottom line, I would've thought that was a time of increased sales for craft brewers, maybe for bigger craft brewers who relied heavily on pub/bar trade it wasn't.

Anyway sad to see them go, had a great time doing the brewery/tap room tour in SF years ago. Would have picked up a few bottles of it from time to time when I saw it in shops here.

As a homebrewer I loved the shape of the Anchor bottles they were great to reuse.
