Hi, I have a question about a stuart turner pump. We had an issue where it was kicking in on and off every few minutes, Sometimes it was constant and sometimes not so much. A plumber came out and charged the pressure vessel, he said the air was low. Its done it a few times since but running the shower for a few minutes seems to stop it. Its manageable but we will get the plumber back out. Theres no leaks anywhere etc its all been checked.

However my question is, we're going away for a few days and im wondering if its okay to turn the pump off while we're away incase it starts turning on and off again? Can any damage be done by doing this? Thanks

There is no problem turning off the pump. Many people turn off pumps, isolation switch for shower etc when the home is empty

I always turn off the pump if i am away and as regards the pump running on it own check for leaks ie the toilet cistern has even a tiny leak the pump will kick in every few minutes . TIP hold a large piece of toilet paper to the back of the bowl ( on the inside) and if the paper gets wet you have a problem with your Cistern.

Thanks Delboy, thats good to know about the pump maybe its something we should do more often. Regarding the pump knocking on, its not leaks thats all been checked and its fine. It was happening daily before the vessel was charged, since then its happened once in 3 weeks so i think maybe a valve or something is starting to deteriorate. Thats also what the plumber said could be a possibility.

We had a ST pump in a previous apartment we lived in. Similar problem, pump kept intermittently coming on and off which eventually blew the starting capacitor. Turns out it was the PCB was failing causing the pump to run on and off. Picked up a new PCB and capacitor from DomesticPumps.ie for around €70 (at the time) and that solved it.
