Hi im looking to purchase a 29 year old Jag XJ40 on Isle of Mann plates. Its been i storage in Ireland. I planned to store it until 3o years old and then import it. I'm just wondering am I liable for Vat and how would that be calculated? I know VRT will be 200.

You will need shipping details showing when the car entered the country. As the Isle of Man is a 'British Crown Dependency' of the UK, you will be liable VAT and duty as it isn't in the EU.

I'm in the middle of negotiations to buy a 320SL from the Isle of Man and when a car is sold there the owner has to deregister it immediately. They have their own rules and regulations there some of which would make you scratch your head

If it's a Jaguar it was built in the UK?, I believe that means the 10% duty does not apply under country of Origin rules, so just the vat payable on what ever the invoice price you get says..
