Which Temporary Licensed Stations Have You Heard?

Since the '00s, there have been a lot of temporary licensed stations on FM. These are most of the ones that I have heard on FM, and/or online, briefly or otherwise, and mainly Dublin-based.

Phantom FM

Irish Music Radio/Irish Country Music Radio/Hot Country (I heard all iterations)

Premier FM

Choice FM

949 The Rock and The Rock (one was for Dublin, and the other was for commuter areas outside of Dublin)

Heartbeat FM

Power FM

Sunrise FM

Raidio Rí-Rá

8Radio.com

Real Radio

Zenith Classic Rock (I heard this one online only)

Walk in My Shoes (WIMS)

Autism FM

The Sound of Ireland

There was also an art installation station called something like Black Brain Radio.

I may have missed one or two, but who can blame me!

Which temporary licensed stations did you hear, either on their allocated FM frequency or online?

AMARC - FM in 1990. Obscure temp (first temp licenced by the IRTC as it was) to promote the AMARC Community radio conference that was being held in Dublin at the same time.

Anna Livia FM (the forerunner to Dublin City 103.2) initially started life as a temp licence before getting its fulltime licence in 1992.

UCD-FM .. temp student station ran for a number of years from 1991.

SCB-FM ran as temp student station for a number of years from what is now known as Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Notable for the amount of illegal relays it seemed to get every year it came on!

Niall Boylan ran a talk one not long before he joined 4fm, Hot Talk I think it was called

I had half-forgotten about those 1990s temps! I did hear UCD and Senior College Ballyfermot. Another one I heard a few times was a station from Blackrock College. I now remember one that ran one year called Travel FM, which was largely reports of traffic around Dublin City!

Re Niall Boylan's station, it was actually called Real Radio and I listed it above. I think "hot talk" was the description he used for the station.

Somewhere in a box of cassette tapes in my studio, I have recordings of the infamous Griff FM breakfast show.

Travel FM (automated traffic, parking space availability and weather reports) was my favourite.... especially when the voice track file playout system got confused and mixed up weather and traffic reports :

"Traffic is ..... snowing heavily ... on Dame Street"

Simon and I used to slag it off regularly on The Anorak Hours of the time.

Somehow I forgot the temporary license from earlier this year for Classic Hits 80s. I think it was because it was inextricably linked with Classic Hits Ireland.
