    Hi all,

Could anybody suggest please what might be the next most likely reason(s) why my Whirlpool washing machine has stopped spinning? Both the belt and carbon brushes are fine.

    Many thanks.

Make and model of unit and have you open and closed the door and unplugged for a few minutes then plugged in.

Is water filling the machine .

When you had the motor out to check the brushes did you check for continuity in the windings with a meter, have you any motor action at all? or did you remove the belt to make sure the drum is free, simple test is first set it for drain and listen to hear the pump working , if ok re set to spin position and assuming the motor is ok it should have motor action, if not check the harness for breaks and if you can’t find any either get a tech in or park it.

@theredace Thank you. I didn't need to remove motor to change brushes. I am not an electrician, so don't have a meter. Yes, I set it to drain and pump is working. Yes, then I set it to spin and no motor action. Not sure what you mean by "check harness for breaks". Thanks a mil.

The harness is the loom of wires attaching to the terminal block in the motor, if you do find a wire broken cable tie the loom to the motor frame when sorted

@theredace Thanks again. Just one final question please. Without removing the motor, when I use my fingers to try to manually turn the motor, should I be able to? Because I'm not. I can only turn it maybe 30 degrees, then no more. So perhaps broken copper wiring, as you suggest, geting trapped on something.

Motor should turn freely in both directions, bearings probably seized. Don’t go wasting money on it unless you can find a used motor to check if the module is still ok
