Potential issues with extracting second molar? (Number 18 I believe) ? Dentist is pushing for crown.

Had a chunky filling and bits of molar fall out after eating crisps.

Severe pain including migraine. Currently on antibiotics and painkillers.

My options are extraction, or a crown.

I wanted the thing yanked out. Dentist recommended a €1,200 root canal and crown.

It's the molar just in front of the wisdom tooth. How important is this tooth?

And how long after extraction do I have to wait and decide if I want an implant? I'll go over and get one in Bangladesh or something.

I just don't want to spend 1,200 on a tooth if I can survive without it. All other teeth are fine, I have one other filling.

Just wondering how you got on and what option you went with. Currently on antibiotics with the same dilemma. Many thanks

So as i said the dentist was pushing for a €1,200 job but i said **** it just take the tooth out.

Root canal and porcelain cap sounds gross. Keeping that rotten thing in my head.

The extraction went fine. Too fine actually, the molar came out very easily. The dentist said i made the right choice taking it out as it seemed pretty weakly held in place. Luckily i didn't fall for their unpselling.

That was about a month ago. Going grand now.

Dentist offers patient treatment option to retain abscessed tooth, now called “upselling”.

The clock should be wound back 40 years, extractions only to be offered/advised to patients.

    Who’d a thunk.
