How to join joist to wall

Hi I'm coving in part of my yard with corrugated pvc sheeting.

The span is 3m so I'm using 2x4s, and they'll be fixed to 3x4s that are bolted to the wall on either side.

What's the best way to fix the spans to the wall board? It is to use joist hangers? Don't want to cut into the spans or wall board

Joist hangers. It's what they're made for.

You could also run a 2x4 along the wall on either side. It may look better than leaving exposed galvanised joist hangers?

No rest them on top of the board and just notch the joists to fit. Then you can infill above the "ledge" and between the ends of the joists to make sure they stay in position (not that they will move anyway if screwed in). Saves the look of joist hangers if they are exposed.

Good one thanks for that. The spans are 2x4, so would the notch go about an inch?

Not even that I'd personally just remove enough to make a flat surface at either end of the joist and let the infill pieces keep them square. I wouldn't notch into the supporting strip at all.

Edit>.. or run a 2 x 7 down either side and carefully notch it for the 2 x 4 joists before bolting to the wall. Put a small flat on the each end of the joist to allow for the angle of the slope so the joists bear flat on the wall plate and make your notches of a depth to account for that.
