Recently bought this in the North and the 2nd hand dealer included a 6 month warranty with it.

Rather annoyingly the rear passenger door has stopped working, it won't open from the inside or the outside.

After a lot of googling, I can see it's a common enough issue and there are plenty of fixes however none of them have worked for me, most common seems to be locking the car and opening from the inside.

I spoke to the warranty company and they will cover the repairs but I have an NCT booked for Sunday so just wondering if anyone might have additional ideas re a fix that I might be missing.

Unlock and give the door a few bangs with your fist, might work

Didn't work either, there doesn't seem to be the same resistance from the door handle on the locked door compared to the others so think it might be the cable that's gone.

There's an alarm in the car, could that be something that's faulty and causing an issue with the door?

Also read that it could be a child lock being engaged that's the issue but never checked what position they were in before buying it. Driver's side door is off so would presume it's the same for the locked one too.

I would just take in for NCT as is , will fail on door wont open but retest if only fail should be a visual, then you have 30 days to take for repair and rebook retest with in 21days. (actually by this time you already have)

Failed on door as expected so only a visual retest, will book it into the garage for the week coming

Bringing this back to life as there's been an issue with the claim for the repair that ensued under the warranty.

Insurance company want some more details wrt what went wrong.

The garage sent in their invoice and got denied payment and now are being no help with to claim and just want payment. (That's a different conversation for another day.)

What had caused the parts to fail that they needed replacing, was there any signs of wiring, water or corrosion damage.

Handles are a plan exclusion under your terms and conditions, unfortunately this cost is denied.

What's the best way to describe the fault in terms of a failure that needed the following repairs as I get the feeling they are rejecting it for normal wear and tear?

Parts will be inner door lock €252.01 plus vat.

    Door handle €68.60 plus vat.

    Linkage €73.45 plus vat.

Total parts €393.06 plus 13.5% vat

    Labour €325.00 plus 13.5 vat.

    Im assuming its mapfre warranty?

If so you are out of luck with getting the handle covered - they will not cover handles at all even if its related to something else - its in their terms and conditions which are absolutely atrocious.

Best thing to do is take the hit on the handle and get the claim passed for the lock, linkage and labour.

The rear passenger door lock is a known issue on the astra - I used to replace loads of them with the linkage cable. Im not sure why the repair required a handle - I never replaced them with the lock as you could always reuse the original handle. Id say what happened is the mechanic broke the handle taking the door card off - quite easy to do if you are trying to open a door thats stuck closed.

Id push for the dealer to pay for the handle themselves as they really should have read the terms and conditions before starting the repair and get the rest covered under the warranty company.

Thanks a million, so does the linkage cable snap or does the mechanism cease? Agree with you re door handle.

Its the lock that fails first and then the cable snaps from continuing to try open and close the door ie pulling on the cable while the lock was seized snapped the cable. We didnt always have to replace the cable either. It depended on whether it was snapped or not.
