Getting an exact Car reg in Ireland

Is it anyway possible in Ireland to get an exact car reg in Ireland?

i was joking with my better half that next year she could get a new car and get a personalised reg with her birthday and year and initials; 241 KE 1984 ( initials KE, born 24th jan 84)

It just got me thinking is it possible? dont have the money for a new car anyway so just a ponder!! ( would have to wait 10 years and buy the car off someone selling it most likely!!)

but can dealers ask nicely to get certain reg numbers?!

The only way to get a specific registration number is by reserving it. Costs around €1,000

Yes it's a grand, you book it the year before and you must wait until that number is naturally issued so for 1984 in Kildare you might have to wait until February 2024 before it will have hit that sales figure. Back about 10 years ago it was 'only' €300 or so, would be much more popular if it was that amount now, must not be worth their while in administration.

Most of us olden folk who visit classic car show view with disdain this ZV registration as in Ireland .gov Ireland will not give old numbers to old cars.

Just who one wonder as olden folk have old car and would wish new number on old car.

As someone stated on this thread as for monies .gov will give number for money.

I used to collect old car numbers with old book but people of Ireland never understand such stuff as most old Irish car and their number became hen-house and now we Irish try to buy old British car and make it Irish.

Us old Irish fogie know as we visit classic car show as we look on window for old numbers.

This zv of Irish tax-man is just one more lie as .gov of Ireland like their taxes.

It was allowed at one stage to transfer a reg number from a scrapped car.

GTI205 being a good example. Think it was originally on a morris minor but was transferred to a 205 GTi

Not sure if that’s what Old Mac Donald has done but it may have been.

My father (RIP) used to speak of a lorry his firm bought when he worked in Dublin in the 1940's: FRI 13.

Apparently it was a mechanical disaster prone to wheels falling off and was quickly got rid of.
