Heating Controls Upgrade

Hi, I recently purchased a new home last year and I'd like to upgrade the home heating Controls over the coming months.

I've been trying to put together a plan for what is the best way to execute this but would appreciate some advice. Currently the house has an open vented system with oil boiler located outside the house which is plumbed in, in what I can only describe as being like a modified C-plan as there are two branches from the boiler, one 1" pipe for rads that is split and reduces to two 3/4" zones for upstairs and downstairs and the other a 3/4" branch for the DHW.

Rather than using a zoning valves though, there are three circulation pumps, two in the boiler house for the heating zones in the house and the other in the hotpress beside cylinder for DHW. There's a thermostat for both zones on the landing and hallway and a cylinder stat also.

The only control I have at the minute is On/Off/Timed On but that's both zones and hot water too but I'd like to improve this if possible by having independent controls for each zone and hot water.

I looked at install kits online and they all seem to be some form of zone valves, stats, controller and wiring hub for S or Y plan systems but from what I've read these aren't entirely necessary for my system as I have pumps on each zone so valves aren't needed. Where I'm a little confused is though is what I can use to control each pump independently if zone valves aren't required?

From what I can understand the zone valves make control easier as when powered they can also provide power to run the boiler too whereas with the pump that functionality wouldn't be possible. In order to power the pump and boiler I would need a relay that could control each zone pump but this is kind of where I'm reached the limit of my understanding of the system so far.

Hopefully someone has some advice or has seen a setup similar to this that can give their 2c (outside of just call a plumber/electrician)

I've added some picture of the space around my boiler
