Vertical Cracks up the Stairs

Looking for some help....I have some cracks after appearing up the stairs, some vertical, some horizontal. What would be the best way to tackle these, as some of them are quite substantial?

What substrate are they on - a stud/plasterboard wall or a solid block one?

I think a photo would be best here.

I think its a plasterboard wall, as on the other side is a converted garage....

Ive attached one here but its hard to capture....there are a few like this running vertically and horizontally up the stairs
