I have a 2018 Opel Astra 1.0, a light came on my dashboard and I brought it to my Opel dealer. They checked it out and said that the crankshaft is damaged and I need a new engine. They couldn’t explain to me how it might have happened. They want to charge me €9,000 for new engine. What should I do?

These 1.0T engines have been giving issues with engines losing compression and piston problems since they were launched.

Obviously don’t spend €9k, get an independent garage or engine specialist like I.V.I to give you their opinion.

Thanks colm - I’m going to bring it to an independent mechanic today and see what they can do for me. I’m in galway so I.V.I is too far away.
