Peugeot 208 stereo fitment

My uncle who's 85 has a 2014 208 and with the last few years the head unit keeps switching off.

He has been calling to me every few days and I've been pulling the fuse for it, putting it back in and that was doing for a few days at a time.

All he wants is the radio.

Lately it's only lasting an hour or two before switching off so now he's at the end of his tether and is fit to burn the car ( He's grumpy enough as it is, besides the stereo trouble 🙊).

Can a basic car double din radio be fitted and dump the original head unit or is it needed for other functions?

There are specific aftermarket units that will fit, it has a tablet style screen so a double DIN won’t work.

Yes I've since noticed that behind the panel the original unit is a single din.

Would it be a straight forward swap having a fascia and aftermarket wiring harness?

Yes. If it was my own car I'd be after doing it long ago but he is a right crank these days and if the slightest thing went wrong I'd never hear the end of it ( well I would 'cause he's 85 🙊), but still.

My brother changed a fuse for him around 4 years ago and still gets the blame for some light the comes on the dash from time to time.

Yeah it should be straightforward, not sure how much the fascia is though, could be expensive given most people are upgrading rather than downgrading size.

Well a new unit is around 1000 but even if it wasn't he wouldn't touch one as he said it'll probably go again.

I told him seek out an auto electrician to see would they do it.

He only wants a basic radio so something around €100 would do but he wouldn't mind spending 300+ just for peace of mind.

Would be worth talking to a radio repair specialist @iamthemanwork

Don't know if he’s still active on Boards, but he would be a good place to start. I can PM you his business info if not.

Thanks he's probably too far to do the job though. Dublin yeah?
