Great to see perhaps Ireland's best professional racing driver at the moment, Charlie Eastwood winning this important endurance racing series alongside his fellow drivers Ayhancan Guven and Salih Yoluc! The DKR Engineering team clinched the Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 title by winning the final race of the season at Yas Marina Circuit. Belfast's Eastwood took the checkered flag 1.9 seconds ahead of Neel Jani in the 99 Racing Oreca 07 Gibson that was also driven by Nikita Mazepin and pole-sitter Ahmad Al Harthy.
The race win came as a bit of a surprise but they had gained enough points over the other three races of the series to win the series and the title. DKR unexpectedly moved to the head of the field with 15 minutes to go when the other leading teams had problems - Inter Europol’s Oreca slowed with a suspected gearbox issue, and Cool Racing picked up a stop-go penalty for undercutting the minimum time at one of its mandatory 100-second pit stops.
Some very tight racing with other car classes mixed up on the track saw Charlie put the foot down and just go for it. Was spectacular to watch!
