Just looking for an approximate price and time it would take to get a thermostat fitted on a water tank? Also is this a job for a plumber or electrician?

    Thanks

Do you mean the cost of installing a electric immersion in the cylinder or installing a cylinder stat (another form of thermostat) to control the HW temperature if the cylinder is heated by a gas or oil fired boiler?.

So to explain, I had a BER assessment recently and the person doing it said he couldn’t see a thermostat in my water tank. I do have an immersion and can heat my water from my gas too. Apologies if I’m not using the right terminology.

Normally, you would have the gas boiler heating the rads, CH or/and the hot water, HW, there should be a programmer with CH & HW on it, if you select CH then a electricall controlled motorized valve will open if the room thermostat is calling for heat, if HW selected then another motorized valv will open if the cylinder thermostat is calling for heat, this generally set to 60C, it will reheat the cylinder by opening the motorized valve if the temperature falls to ~ 50C and close when the temperature reaches 60C. These are called zone valves.

Yeah so I guess the issue is I can’t tell it to heat the water to a certain temp so at the moment if the gas or immersion is on for an hour it keeps heating the water
