    Hi All

Hoping to pick up my new car at the end of the month. It's our first brand new car but I'm just wondering if there's anything to look out for before driving it away? I'm not mechanical myself but will check door and boot mechanisms are smooth and quiet etc and seat movement etc but is there any kind of checklist of things to watch out for before taking delivery?

    Cheers.

This thread a few weeks ago is a good reference point. Main thing I'd check is the spec matches what you ordered.

Just one other query on this one. We're picking up the car on Wednesday and I'm wondering if there's a 'normal' amount of mileage a new car should have when collecting? I presume the car will have been driven and checked by the service team and moved around here and there so it naturally won't be 0km. I'm more wanting to check that it hasn't been given out to any other customers for a cheeky test drive etc.

I'd expect the car to have less than 100 miles on the clock.

Most brand spanking new cars I've had in usually have around 12km on the clock. Very few have come in with less than that, and some come off a truck with up to 20km.

Anything below 50km I'd consider delivery mileage - might have been driven from one site to another or from storage to the dealership to save time waiting on transporters.

Anything over 50km I'd query, but wouldn't make a big fuss over. Over 100km I'd make a fuss.

Got confirmation that it's 10km so I'm delighted with that.

It was probably registered today to hit end of month targets, so when you get home with the RF100, before you tax it on motortax.ie, declare it off the road for 3 months.

You can then log on again on Thursday and tax it from the start of March, overriding the off the road declaration.

It takes about 30 seconds to declare it off the road. Might only save €10-€15 depending on the tax rate but better in your pocket than the government for a few seconds work, when the car was off the road in February.

    Way less than that normally.

p.s. I was late to the thread.

None that I've ever seen, and I've seen more than a few...

    Hey there!

Congrats on your new car! I just got a new Mini Cooper myself, and I was super excited and a bit anxious about it too. Aside from checking the basics like doors and seats, don't forget to inspect the exterior for any scratches or dents, ensure all electronics are functioning, and verify that you have the owner’s manual and all keys. Also, double-check the mileage to ensure it aligns with what was promised.

A friend recommended A-1 Auto Transport when I needed my Mini Cooper shipped. I had so much going on, and they really made the process easy for me. Owning a car is awesome – it gives you freedom, convenience, and a sense of independence. Enjoy your new ride!

I'm sure they already picked it up. You're replying to a 14 month old post!

Some cars have a one time only facility to reset to 0 once it’s under certain mileage. (Think it’s usually 100)
