Was quoted 350 euro + vat ( so over 400 euro) for someone to come out to check out a possible leak, with 150 euro + materials after that.

Am I being ripped off or have priced really gone crazy?

How long is a piece of string.

My sister had a leak detection company in. They drained down her heating system, put their chemicals & came to the conclusion that the boiler itself was leaking. They then filled the heating system. They couldn't get water to several rads and only two heated up. "nothing to do with us, we're not plumbers" and they left. She had no heating on one of the cold nights of the year with two small children. It cost her €150 to get a plumber out the next day to resolve the problem. She paid an RGI plumber to change parts in the boiler but the leak was still there. She paid a handyman to take up floorboards and he eventually found a loose fitting letting out a pint of water every hour or so.

Point of the story is it doesn't matter how much she paid for leak detection guy. He totally failed to detect a significant leak & left her without heating on a cold night.

The question I would ask is is it a reputable company that does qualify work. As far as price is concerned ringing around for quotes would give you a good idea of price
