Asbestos testing

Just moved into a 1960's semi-d. Got a survey done beforehand and he reckoned that there might be some asbestos in one small room and we should get it tested. We take possession of the house the the ceiling in that room doesn't look any different to many of the other rooms because a few of them are stippled. So we're wondering how can he tell which one might have asbestos. The room in question is sitting over the garage and exposed on 3 sides. I wouldn't mind finding out because we got a quote just to test for asbestos and they recommend we test the full house because they are charging per square metre and it's not cheap. Any advice would be great.

    Thx

A lot (all?) of stippled ceilings from before the 90s or so contain asbestos.

Typically these have been "sealed" with many layers of paint over the years so there is not much risk of exposure, unless you take sandpaper to them or something.

If you don't want asbestos in the house at all then get everything tested... if you are happy enough with the stippled ceiling and it is in good condition (i.e. not broken, or flaking etc) then most people tend to just paint them and continue as normal...

Asbestos is only an issue if your start breaking into it. Drilling /cutting etc
