Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Advice on car service/repair issue

Hi, I'm not sure I'm posting in the right place but someone might have a bit of advice. My van went through a CVRT on 18th if December and failed on a few suspension parts. Agreed to send to garage to have work done but he had serviced the van in October and he noted at the time that the injectors were passing so I told him to sort this when it was in with him.

Van is now written off! He rang me when it arrived to say it had no oil so he toped it up. He then went ahead and done suspension repairs and started on the injectors. Rang me to say it was giving trouble starting. Then rang to say the engine 'ran on' while he was doing a flush. This can cause major damage. He then checked the turbo and it was in poor condition and this must have been where the oil previously had went. He changed the turbo and rang to say it is knocking badly and more than likely has internal damage. Where do I stand?? Stupidly I paid him🙁

    It's a 2007 Transit 2.2

    Thanks for any replies.

2007 transit - Was it wise to invest in changing injectors, turbo and suspension parts? Certainly that question would have to have crossed your mind before the work even commenced. Perhaps the van was in particularly good shape for year, but by the same logic would it not now be worth considering a second hand replacement engine.

Your only gripe with the mechanic would be if he was negligent in causing damage to the engine, but from what you say there isn’t really any evidence to support this?

I would probably chalk it up as unfortunate.

Thanks for reply, to be honest it's a camper so I thought it would be worth the investment. It drove in 100% when needing only suspension parts so I thought I'd get the injector washers done as he had recommended. 80euro per injector. It was then that it started to all unravel 🙁

What probably happened is there was an oil leak into the turbo, when he ran the engine the oil as sucked into engine by the turbo and the engine ran out of control on the oil from the turbo. My brother in law was a mechanic and it happened to a car he worked on.

It's not your mechanics fault the turbo filled with oil though maybe he should have questioned where all the oil went? 07 camper, I'd look for a second hand engine and see if you can strike a deal with them to fix it. Say you cover the cost of the engine and they fit it for free.

This does seem like the likely scenario, have an engine specialist looking at it now so will hopefully know more.
