Satellite stopped working, might be the cables?

Hey, weird one here. My satellite stopped working a while back. Was acting like a poorly aligned dish. Went at the dish, no matter what I did couldn't improve it.

Out dish is diectly next to my neighbour's (who happens to be my father-in-law), so I removed cables from my dish and put onto his, just to test. Same issue, nothing being found. I tested on my LG TV and my zgemma box, same results.

It seems weird to me that both cables would break at the same time, but they are wrapped next to each other and go over the top of house, so I guess something could have broken them where I can't see (I can stand next to dish, all looks good there, but can't get to the roof easily).

Is there any easy way to verify what is/isn't working? I'd prefer not to get an installer out, happy to tinker myself.

If I do need new cables, does it really matter or will any coax so?

Also, can anybody recommend a decent but cheap satellite finder? Dish definitely needs to be properly aligned.

Oh and finally, if I was to go at the dish and stuff, is there any benefit to an English speaker in looking at foreign satellites too? Or is 28e sufficient?

    Cheers all!

Why not test lnb on your dish by hooking it to father in law? Then report back . Make sure box at in laws is on a fta channel BBC before swopping cables. Have you a spare lnb?

Don't have spare lnb. FIL has sky q (but with a combo lnb thing to allow normal fta), so I guess i could check that. I don't think that's the issue though, as the cables connected to my FIL's dish don't work, but the cables connected from that dish to sky q in his house work fine...

2 cables failing at the same time could be unusual but possible if they're both taped together.

Did you say you tested your boxes on the cables next door? As his LNB is SkyQ you won't get all your channels due to the LNB tech but you will get some if your equipment is working properly.

Replacement cable, any satellite grade cable will suffice, RG6 or the CT100 spec cables.

Going beyond 28e will be a bit more complicated, requiring a multi-LNB setup and dish, I have this, haven't really used the multi-sat for quiet a while now, it was fun setting it up at the time though.
