Faulty Series X

I didn't know whether to post this here or in consumer issues, if a mod thinks it's better suited the feel free to move.

I got a new game for my Series X yesterday and it will not read the disc. I never had this problem before. I tried a few of the discs I have and it'd read some of them but not others. One of them was working fine about two weeks ago but now it's not being read. I can year the disc drive working.

Strangely soon after this happened it stopped picking up my WiFi randomly, it's like there's a problem with the WiFi chip itself as it's not showing any SSIDs.

From searching online I've tried a few things I've seen mentioned, including,

-factory reset keeping data and a complete factory reset

    -changing power saving options

-clearing alternative Mac address (for WiFi issue)

Has anyone had these issues with their Series X and if so where you able to fix them?

It was bought in November 2021 from Argos. I checked the Microsoft warranty and that was only a year unfortunately. What are Argos like for console returns over 12 months? Console has sat on the TV stand since we got it so it hasn't had a fall or anything like that.

Is it possible for a disc to damage the Xbox?

I tried to get the disc to work again yesterday, no joy unfortunately. Turned off the Xbox for a while. When I came back to it the WiFi wasn't working again. Showing no networks at all. Tried clearing Mac address, several restarts and finally factory reset it. Still no WiFi.

Remembered this morning the disc was still in the drive so I booted it up and still no WiFi connection. Removed the disc and restarted the console and it's connected fine.

Is this something that's even possible or just a huge coincidence?

*Edit* Just tested it there. WiFi and online play working. Insert disc and restart, no WiFi connections show. Remove disc and restart, connections come back. Managed to repeat this a number of times with different discs. Any ideas?

Have you tried connecting it with a Internet cable and see if it connects to the Internet. Then try put in a disc see what happens.

That 1 year warranty from MS is a manufacturers guarantee really. You are entitled to raise a problem about a product for up to 6 years from the date of buying it. This applies regardless of the terms of any guarantee or warranty.

Even Apple recognise that you can claim within 6 years under Irish Consumer law. You could ring MS and explain this if they deny your claim, assuming you are certain it is a defective Xbox. Normally you would take this up with the place you bought it but Argos are closed in this country, unless they have a process for dealing with warranty in place. In any case, it is perfectly acceptable to take it up with the manufacturer.

Worst case, you could go to the Small Claims court for 35 euro.
