Is the travel time shorter now with the new road lay out?

    TIA

i traveled it 2 weeks ago - not shorter at all... I guess it prevents one being delayed in Macroom though when its busy

Wasn't Macroom always busy, hence the reason why they've been asking for a bypass for decades? The powers that be have estimated that, when it's all completed, it will save half an hour on the Cork Kerry journey. I saved time on the journey about three weeks ago, and can't imagine anyone who doesn't save time, unless of course they drive with the handbrake on, or never drive at more than 60KPH whatever road they happen to be driving on. 😁

Macroom campaigned for decades for a bypass. Was it worth the wait? (irishexaminer.com)

was worth the wait for the people of Macroom town for sure by the looks of the article.. safer, less pollution, congestion getting in and out of the town etc...

maybe I should have been more specific - my query was in relation to going from Cork City to Killarney.. which only occurs on Sunday mornings.. so I was never delayed in Macroom pre bypass.. no traffic as such then.. so this time - while using the bypass - it still took me 1.5 hrs to get from home to the national park - same as pre bypass..

I hope that clears things up for you

How is the new section of the road working out? Are there any delays or build ups with traffic at the access roundabout East of Ballyvourney?

You can by pass Ballyvourney which is great. The bypass has saved travel time. Not that I know of so far. It has been a smooth run any time I’ve been on the bypass.

I gather the traffic build up is now beyond Lissarda at peak times. A neighbour was heading to Cork one morning recently and reported heavy but generally moving traffic from there to EMC, around 6.45 am.

Depending on the time of the day, the journey between Lissarda up to the motorway can be very challenging. You don’t want to have a bathroom emergency. Just saying.
