SKY+ Box Question

    Folks,

    having some work done at home, this will necessitate the switching off of all electrical power for 2-3 or so hours …in addition the SKY+ HD box and smart TV will be plugged out, completely disconnected and relocated to another part of the room to be wall mounted .

    any pitfalls ? Am I correct in believing that once everything is plugged in again and powered back on, after a minute the box will recalibrate and I’ll have a working sky box and TV without issue ? All channels intact and available ?

    Never done this before and info online is conflicting…..both from sky and from sky users…

    I’d be grateful for any first hand info and experience.

    They should be okay as your not changing anything and assume 2 new sat feeds or Extended cables.

    If going into a wall make sure its easy access or removable to add or change things with cables.

    Anyone who doesn't pay for sky just lost satellite signal,?have they switched us off,or do I need to get the ladder out after a windy night? I see they are offering free sky boxes to existing customers.

    You cannot lose a sky signal from Sky , but channels move , dish moves and cables get damaged.

    You wont decrypt those channels without a sub.

    Your still able to use it to view FTA. I will not pay for another Sky account as prices are too high.

    Are you getting any signa and quality on either tuner.

    Lnbs have a life limit of maybe 8 - 10 years

    Thanks for that agree with all the above. Checked with a friend who has a similar set up and no problem,so fault lies here.Will investigate further. Long term I guess the days of the dish are nmbered,

    People tell me to move to IPTV and i say no as FTA will always work as some places dont have internet.

    Always handy if you have a working sat dish signal.

    I would ask how long has everything been in place .

    Normal service restored.Odd fault I hadn't experienced before. Your remote viewing skills pointed me towards the lnb,the dish is only above head hight and seemed rusted in place,and was not off pan our tilt.

    All 4 bar graph sig strength indications were missing.

    Two appeared back the next morning,still 2 missing.

    Fault was ,the centre pin of the Sky moulded F plug was diss.

    I'll miss the dish if they go, going back to my Links days, but never F plugs,going all the way back to when they originated as RF aerial plugs in the States.

    Handy not to have to involve a ladder,and as I've often mention to folk,the Satellite is 22,000 miles away,another's 10 feet not going to make a hugh difference.

    As pointed out some of us in rural areas depend on Sky FTA,as no FM,DaB,or terrestrial signal ,is available,but you pay a licence to operate a receiver.

    Having lost copper landline,no mobile signal, not spot,

    so no emergence calls anymore, when the dishes go,may have to dig out the Cat's Whisker!
