can anyone advise me if the iphone 13 prints good photos at the standard 4x6 size? i find my iphone prints from my iphone 5 come out blurred even though they look great on the phone screen. is there any way to fix this?

i took a photo with my friends iphone 13 and i was 3024x 4032. would this print at 4x6 or would i have to change the pixel size?

iPhone 13’s camera is 12 megapixels, it should be able to print at 4x6 no problem. The native resolution of such a print would be about 750 dpi (dots per inch). 300 dpi would be generally regarded as the minimum acceptable for photo printing, so it’s more than double that.

The quality of the photo itself (and the subject) will be bigger factors in how the print turns out.

Just out of interest, I printed a few photos on my cheapo inkjet printer (a Canon Pixma MG3650). 4x6, photo best quality on photo paper. The printer isn't great, but it's adequate.

While I didn't have the same scene on all cameras, I chose something similar, with a clear blue sky background. main subject in the mid ground and detail in the foreground.

    • iPhone 5 (8mp)
    • iPhone 7 (12mp)
    • iPhone 12 Pro (12mp) (I don't have a 13, but this will be similar)
    • Sony A1 (50mp) [this isn't a phone, but a top-of-the-range mirrorless camera for reference]

The iPhone 5 print was just about acceptable. There's certainly a lack of detail in the foreground, but as a whole, the print was ok as a snap that you wouldn't look too closely at - within the limitations of the printer itself.

The iPhone 7 and 12 Pro certainly showed more detail. I didn't see any great difference between the two. I think any issues with the prints were down to the printer.

The A1's colours and dynamic range were vastly superior to the iPhones (as you would expect), so the photo looked way, way better than any of the phones, but detail at this size print on this quality printer wasn't any different. Obviously you could blow the A1 50mp image up to bus shelter poster size and still have pin-sharp detail, but down at 4x6 on this entry level printer, there was no advantage in sharpness.

It's quite an unscientific test, but the iPhone 12's photos were certainly an improvement over the 5 when printed. However, the limitation here is definitely the printer itself. I only use this for documents and the odd throwaway snap (stuff the kids need for school). Any keepers I print, I get done at a professional print shop, and I print bigger than 4x6.

Why not post a few photos here so people can comment then?

If blurred, try using timer and resting the phone on something to ensure no shake. Can also touch the screen for where you want the focus to be. Also check what exact settings you have set.

I think the OP is saying the photos are coming out fine on the phone, but the prints are "blurred". Could well be a printer issue.

Sounds too obvious but have you zoomed in on your iphone to check if they're sharp? If you open up a photo on a laptop to view it large, is it still sharp?
