    Hi guys

Go easy as I'm a complete newbie.Iv been researching the next last 3 weeks to pick a 125 for what I need and have narrowed it down to the gsxs or Duke..It's just for some commuting, fun spins around the country camping and stuff.I know people will say get a bigger one but I'm only 5'5" plus my IBT was my first time ever on a bike. The weight of the bigger ones puts me off so maybe the 125 for first year till I'm more confident.Any you experts guide me to which might be better, the Duke looks better but the Suzuki is a tad cheaper(Still nice too). Also speed is not an issue as I actually cruise at 100km in my car on motorways anyway just more about getting out and about.Cheers

I'd be one to recommend going bigger but I get the start small and work up. Few things to bear in mind is resale value might not hold up on the lower end of the cc scale - keep that in mind if youre planning on going up a bit to a bigger bike. Also if you are planning on camping, would you be carting a lot of gear with you? Tent, equipment etc .. will the be capable of lugging a lot of gear?

What did you do your IBT on? If a 125, then short of re-doing it, you might have no choice but to go down the A1 (125) route.

Tbh - and we've no idea of your age - even a 250 A2 would give you just that bit more safety -yep, safety. 125's are very limiting on the open road as everyone - trucks included - will be quicker. A 250 would allow you to stay just ahead, out of the way, and that's the safest place to be.

As for your height, 5'5" should see you manage all kinds of bikes, even way above A2 (weight notwithstanding until you're experienced).

If you can stretch to a 250, which is at least 20kW, there is a much bigger market to resell that later compared to a 125.

And, after all that, if it came to it, I'd buy the Suzuki over the Duke, for reliability and resalability. There's one of those Suzuki 125's in town here, and it's looks like a very nice full-size bike.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Would second going bigger. A 125 is something of a death trap in an already hazardous pursuit.

I would second the Suzuki, i've heard some awful horror stories about the KTM's from a reliability point of view.

On the size of the bike, I would urge you not to be afraid to go a bit bigger than a 125, even a 250 or 400. A larger cc will comfortable sit at 100km all day long and it won't feel like you're anywhere near the limit, but a 125 will be working hard at 100kmhr!!
