Cheap Diesel Road runner?

    Hey,

I am looking for recommendations for a cheap to buy car for intermittent cross country travel,

I work contracts for events in Dublin but I live in Mayo so I spend time traveling up and down. But not every week of the year as its only contract work and when I'm home the nearest big town is like 30 min away.

I had a 2007 kia ceed that was doing the trick until a recent NCT flagged it as too much to repair to be worth it.

So Im back to square one.

Looking at spending like 4k max if I can.

Is a diesel worth it at that price point? Should I go for a petrol Toyota/Mazda?

Ive seen a lot of Renault Fluences. Should I just go back and buy a slightly newer Kia ceed or i30?
