Buying car sold on behalf of someone else

Hi, not a frequent private car buyer so just want to find out if this sounds dodgy or not.

I'm looking at a fairly unique car, spec I want, service history I want, condition I want. The catch is...its being sold by a guy who's selling it on behalf of his friend.

Conscious of how this could ultimately go: he'll request cash for a car that's not in his name, if it goes t1ts up I'm a little stuck.

My assumption is he's either telling the truth or he's a part time dealer trying not to add owners, would this be a serious no-go for people or am I being over cautious? It's 17k so not a number I can afford to be conned out of.

    Cheers for any advice

If your concerned you can ask to speak to the registered owner before purchase.

If thats not possible then I’d assume they are a trader. But if the car fully checks out then its not a problem. You just sign the logbook and be on your way.
