Reversing light repair

Car failed NCT on the reverse lamps not working and I just have to bring it back for a visual check to show that they are working. So I opened up the rear light bulb fixings on the car (a 2008 Micra) and replaced the clear bulbs that were behind the clear plastic on both sides. I was presuming them to be the reversing bulbs, below that was an orange hazard bulb and below that a clear bulb behind red plastic for the brake lamps. Anyway after changing out the bulbs I put it in reverse gear but nothing lit up, is the next step to change the fuse or could it be something else? And how do I figure out which fuse to change, do I need a diagram or something

Has it one or 2 reverse lights on the rear? Some cars only have 1.

Are you sure you replaced the bulbs exact like for like?

Reverse light switch on gearbox possibly worn , disconnect wire block off the 2 pin switch and get some small wire hairclip and insert in block connector to bridge and switch on ignition reverse light should work as switch was bust.

^ Don't do that. That might work on an old pre-can bus car. If you cross the wrong two wires in a connector block you could end up corrupting or blowing your ECU. Also if you disconnect and reconnect a device you might find the car in limp mode when you go to drive it.

Thanks all, turned out it was something at the fuse box like a relay, got a mate to fix it for me in the end so all good now

The switch inside gearbox connects a circuit of 2 wires so what is the difference on outside with a paper clip or wire.

Block connector usually only has 2 wires

In a more modern car possibly, but a 2008 Nissan Micra is likely to have most of its minor electronics wired in the 12v + & - old-style. Circuit for a reversing light in a car that size& age is still going to be as simple as possible, no need for computers to get involved.
