I always remember growing up my dad used to constantly play the soundtrack of Carousel so its ingrained in my memory. I was setting up an Echo device and the song below came on, I've never actually seen the film so I thought I'd give it a go.

The first surprise was that Shirley Jones who plays Julie Jordan and was also in Oklahoma was the mother in the 70's show The Partridge Family along with David Cassidy and Susan Dey from LA Law.

The scene Shirley plays below is the best part of the film and quite moving.

But what shocked me was the casual violence where it's established that:

Billy Bigelow has hit Julie, I just cant remember seeing this in any other film of this genre and as a character Billy has no redeeming features for example on hearing Julie is going to have a baby his response is to get involved in a knifepoint robbery
