Metro construction in parts

Los Angeles Metro are currently building a light rail metro line from DTLA to Westwood (one of three currently under construction!) and they announced today that it will open in phases over three years. I love this because it brings the benefits of rain to some customers sooner instead of waiting for everything to complete before opening anything.

I wonder why this never happens in Ireland or is it just a happy side effect of this particular line that the depots happen to be in the right place to facilitate this.

Well, we haven’t managed to build even part of a metro line yet!

I suppose you could argue that we built the Luas in phases, albeit over a much longer timescale. Bus Connects is being done in phases. Electrification of the Dublin commuter railways is being done in phases (again, over half a century or so). The M50 and its upgrade were done in phases.

Not sure I follow you to be honest?
