Can anyone help me out ?

My car failed the nct because I was told the emissions test couldn't be done because the engine management was on ??

    Thanks.

That's wrong, they should do the test anyway.

If the engine management light is on they will fail the test (it may be unsafe to stress the engine). It normally is a picture of an engine on your dash in or around the speedometer.

Fix the cause of the EML activation, book retest.

I know it's a camshaft sensor but the same car passed the nct in 2021 with the same light on as it belonged to my wife at the time.

I feel I'm being scammed into a retest fee.

Thought a test could be done with engine management light on unless its specifically related to emission's.

I thought if it was a diesel they wouldn't do the test if the EML was on? A petrol they will.

I dunno guy's, thanks for your comments.

If he'd said it failed because of the eml I'd understand totally but it was fully tested and the first test is emissions.

Then to be told emissions test couldn't be done because of the eml .

Got caught on this this year, emissions light had shown last year and put through test with acceptable levels and a pass. This year they tested everything bar the emissions as it's now their policy/rule not to when warning light shows so had to get it fixed. The chap was almost apologetic about it as he realised it probably wasn't an issue with the car There are resets, see Google, which might fix it without buying new kit/sensors

Some treat the 'new' lights they see on the dashboard as Scout badges for conquering different driving conditions 😂

I can't live with the fuel light on, never mind the eml

I know a guy who had this problem, engine warning light on amber.

He removed the dash, put a piece of black tape over it. No more warning light.

I've gone through the NCT for the last 3 years with the engine light on (its an oxygen sensor warning that has had no effect on the cars performance or emmisions, 99 Avensis)

Only diesel cars will fail an NCT for an engine light. Not petrols. They don’t fail on the light itself they fail because they won’t carry out the emissions test

My father's car once developed a problem with the airbag. Can't remember how they found out, maybe through the OBD looking for something else. But the thing was, the airbag light would just go out like it should after starting the engine.

Turned out the previous owner had removed the lightbulb and removed the piece of plastic that separated the airbag light from another light (oil pressure or so). So the oil pressure light would also shine through the airbag icon. Starting the engine, oil pressure light comes on, once the engine's running the oil pressure light switches off again and so does the airbag light...

Come to think of it, it might also have been the engine warning light and that the car had developed a problem there, so that's how they found out because both lights would stay on (seemingly). I think (apart from fixing the engine related issue) they had to replace the passenger airbag or something along those lines. A nice unexpected bill regarding a car that my father already owned a number of years, so it was not like he could go back to the seller with it.
