Ball joint,( rubber perished)

Hi,

hope someone can give advice/opinion on this. Last July car went for NCT, and failed on front ball joints, went to garage in Galway City, they fitted parts, car passed test. Now, only 5 months later these had split/perished, and had to be replaced last week. Rang garage in Galway where work was done, and reported it to them. I said I will be looking for full refund of €200.88, or will be getting legal advice.

Balljoints are a wear item but any decent garage should cover this as 5 months is not a long time

really. The garage should have warranty on them from where they bought them. All depends on

how decent the people in the garage are.

I take it is a different garage that noticed them split this time?

Yes, a different garage, and he was cross, says these parts should'nt have gone this quick. Also, I do know a lot about cars, and that ball joints take a good bashing from roads. But come on, that garage in Galway fitted cheap crap????? What would you do if you were in my position?

Some spurious parts are worse than others and I'd assume they fitted parts on the cheaper end of the scale. I'd replace the ball joints and move on

If it was me, I would have told whoever told you the "new" ones were split to leave

them be and go back to the guy who fitted them originally. As I said ball joints are a wear

and tear item, but still should have a warranty.

As Pete says above, it's probably better to replace them and move on and try to stick to

the one garage if possible. (Not always possible I know)
