Foul odor in apartment whenever neighbour uses taps?

I live in a converted house comprised of small studios. Whenever my neighbour uses his taps, a foul odor seems to make its way into my apartment. The funny thing is that it doesn't even seem to be coming through my sink as that was my first theory (some kind of pressure blow back through the connected plumbing into my apartment), it seems to be coming through the walls somehow. It's been happening a while now so I know it's not just a coincidence. Thanks.

Check the connections after the waste water traps in your sinks. Between trap and where waste pipe enters the wall or floor.
