2000 Corolla E11 4ZZFE Over Revving in Neutral

    Hi All,

Really appreciate any advice on this one.

    I have a 2000 1.4 Corolla E11. Manual. 207k. Bulletproof.

Had my NCT last Saturday. For the high idle emissions test the engine needs to be held at 2700 rpm for 30 seconds in neutral.

Car failed as it wouldn't hold the rpm.

So I tried it myself afterwards.

It holds the revs to approximately 2500 rpm and then when you throttle to 2600 the rpms climb to 3400.

    1. It only over revs when the engine is up to temperature.

    2. When cold it is possible to hold the rpm at any number. Checked this multiple times.

    3. It does not over rev when the car is in gear and driving.

    So far I have

    1. Cleaned the throttle body

    2. Cleaned the MAF sensor.

    3. Checked the hoses for leaks.

    4. Removed the Idle Speed Control valve and ensured it isnt stuck. It stuck on me in the past.

5.. Put an obd11 scanner on the engine and there are no error codes.

None of these have worked so far.

Has anyone seen a similar problem online or even had the same issue?

I replaced all valves 12 months ago and also carried out the DIY piston upgrade with new rings, at the same time, and its not burning a drop of oil since. Hope someone can help.

Have had her from new and be a shame to let her go at this stage.
