Floorboards - Repair before carpet?

    Hi all,

We moved house recently and have semi solid wood flooring in the master bedroom. The creaking and noise from the boards underneath are driving us mad when we walk on the floor and every step can be heard on the living room ceiling directly below downstairs.

The room feels cold and dated with the wood flooring and so we’d like to put new carpet in.

My question is, do carpet and flooring companies generally offer a service where the beams /floorboards would be checked and new floorboards installed under the carpet if necessary or do I need to get a carpenter in to tear up the wood flooring and replace the floorboards first?

    Thanks for your help!

My carpet fitter didn't do it and I had to get a carpenter in first to replace creaking floorboards.
