I currently have a HP Envy printer. Every second time I go to use it wants me to download the software for the computer.

I use a cable connection to the computer as they are on the same desk. Its very frustrating and time consuming.

I would never buy another HP product. Can any one suggest a scanner/printer that I can just plug into a computer ?

Canon MG2550s, cheap as chips, ink not to bad. If you want basic wifi printer i'd go for a cheap canon one also

Yeah I had a cheap Canon. Great printer.

Got my parents a cheap HP as was on offer on Currys website. Took 3 attempts to get it set up flopping between phone app and laptop software as both kept freezing at certain points. Got it on the wifi using the phone then managed to complete the setup on laptop using the PIN off the back of it. Printer takes forever to do anything and is temperamental. Never again will I buy HP.

+1 for Canon, get a 3 in 1 that prints, scans and photocopies, great for creating PDF's of docs to send to too. Not sure if pricing is still primarily recovered on the cartridges for the manufacturer but mine was only about €80, cartidges around €40 each, have it 5 or more years, no issues whatsoever, does only light use, maybe 200 pages a year.

This is good for €65, includes ink...

It supports wired connection, doesn't come with a USB cable though, see page 36 of manual.
