Looking for a little advise, thinking of travelling to Dubrovnik this summer but having problems finding appropriate accommodation. Family of 4 with a 14 & 17 yr old. Ideally looking for a 2 bed apartment within a complex with a pool.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks

Probably Lapad which is an area of Dubrovnik (newer, nearby the port) is where you’d complexes with pools or further out from the old city walls.

We stayed in Dubrovnik last year in an AirBNB 2 mins from the Pile gate overlooking a tiny little beach and cove and loved the location for how close in walking distance everything was, trade off for plushness of facilities (IE hotels or apartments in Lapad as its maybe 10e by Uber, vs stunning location to city walls by the Pile gate) plenty to do in Dubrovnik and very easily accessible but it was very crowded at times and also not cheap.

What month was this if you don't mind?

I'm thinking of going in mid september and do a trip from dubrovnik up to Split

End of March last year. Not many cruise ships at that point but the old town is very compact, so much like Venice, it gets very crowded right inside the city walls and side streets. Do look at the Pile Gate area (just outside the walls - some nice AirBNbs and easy walking distance to everything)

My son went to Zadar a few weeks later and traveled around Croatia a bit, stunning scenery.

Will you be hiring a car? we stayed north of Dubrovnik, plenty of hotels and beaches, and just drive to the city for 1 or 2 days, also if you have a car you can drive to Bosnia or Montenegro on a day trip

Cavtat just beside the airport (no noise) is very family friendly. very walkable and a 5 minute taxi from airport. has 20 minute boat and transport links to Dubrovnik and lots of beaches. its possibly one of the most underrated places in Europe. Loads of apartments there with pools. It is where they filmed the latest Nick cage movie(The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent ) good value there and its so peaceful and relaxing you´d often see the superyachts of U2 or a billionaire dock there rather than Dubrovnik.

In Dubrovnik itself, Babin Kuk has a a few hotels under the valamar brand. There is a bus that goes to the old city right outside the hotel and takes about 10 minutes. Adriatic Resort Apartments is up there above two amazing beaches. it saids Lapad but its Babin Kuk. Lapad side is much busier and traffic heavy, not as peaceful.

Dubrovnik gets very crowded in the summer during the day so i found any places nearby a nice escape. and when i got bored i hopped on a boat or bus to get across to the city. the boats to the islands, boats to cavtat is great as well.

Probably heading back there this summer myself.

If you end up going and thinking cavtat is too boring, trust me its worth a day trip at least. also there is a boat taxi to all of the coastal areas. in Supari you can see the famous abandoned hotels from the war (maybe interesting to teens)

also you have day trips to Montonegro which is absolutely stunning.

in a straw poll of Cote D´azur, Sorrento (my last two trips) and Dalmatia region, the latter probably wins. bang for buck, tranquility, things to do (maybe not as much as France). its an absolute gem. stayed in Dubrovnik for two nights in the old city and mornings and night time was wonderful. daytime it was quite manic. so again Babin Kuk or the like is your friend here.
