Advice on new Desktop Computer - any help appreciated

I'm in the market for a new Desktop computer, but not very tech savvy. My current computer is a HP 500-309na Pavilion; Intel Core Processor i3-4150CPU @ 3.50gHz; Installed RAM 8.00 GB; Windows Edition 8.1.

I'm looking for something similar, but with more RAM and an updated Windows edition. Would appreciate any advice.

You could always just add more memory and upgrade it to win 11 for free?

It can take a maximum of 16GB ram so it presumably has 1x8GB module in one slot with one slot spare. This should be easy to check if you open the case. If it’s 2x4GB modules then you’d be best buying 2x8GB modules.

Also if it's a traditional hard drive an nvme or ssd makes an amazing difference

Is that really the case? I see some 7th gen machines for sale with Win 11 on. Are you suggesting that could be problematic?

it could be yes there have been small changes here and there . one programmer with a 7th gen xeon processor cant run it that i know

id go on a generation or 2 if at all possible as 5.0 boost in a 7th gen isnt the same as 5.0 boost in an 11th or 12th gen

I was looking at an i5 12th Gen machine on Amazon, sold by a third party but fulfilled by Amazon, has anyone got an idea as to what extra charges might be on that into Ireland since Brexit? The machine price is €508

If you put shipping address in RoI, amazon will calculate Irish VAT and any other fees. What you see at checkout is what you need to pay, and nothing will be added. They do the customs and deliver to your door.
