Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Smoke Alarm confusion - Help please

    I have smoke alarms in my house. They live happily until there's smoke or a dead battery. Simple devices, I thought. They bleat when the battery needs to be replaced. A simple plastic back-plate onto which is mounted the alarm unit.

    My neighbour lives alone and asked for my help to change the battery in their smoke alarm. It was bleating!!

    I stood on the ladder and unscrewed the alarm unit from the ceiling mounted backplate. It did indeed have a (dead) 9v battery in it BUT also had a multi-pin connection to a wire that headed off into the ceiling!! What is that all about? I am out of my depth.

    Help please.

    It's probably an interlinked system where the smokes are connected so that in the event that one detects smoke that they all sound together.

    As above they may be interlinked but this really means they are hardwired (for power) the battery is just a back up in case of power failure. Hard wired alarms are the standard now a days.
