Root canal in molar 25 years ago. No crown following root canal treatment. The tooth is now black and brittle and causing pain when bite up high in the gum.

Why have I pain now and should I get tooth removed. How long do root canal teeth last?

You can go see a specialist dentist for root canal and see if it makes sense to remove the tooth or try and save it. I believe if it's near/at the back of your mouth then root canal is harder. Your regular dentist might be capable or recommend to specialist.

Sounds like there may be a fracture and the pieces are moving when you bite on it. Your dentist will need to examine/X-ray to confirm.

Thanks I will get it x-rayed and see when dentist is open after the new year. Think I may have got the most out of this tooth after 25 year root canal, I have read it is not a life long solution.
