I have been thinking about how all phones look the same these days and over the years the last few remaining physical buttons have given way to touch screen and gesture methods.

The obvious path of evolution would appear to be a phone that is completely covered in screen including the edges and back. There will be no ports for charging (all wireless) and the cameras will be cleverly hidden inside the screen (already exists on some models). The screen protector for this phone will be a snug-fitting plastic bag that the entire phone goes into with some adhesive to seal up the back. The actual screen itself will be two screens that seamlessly clip together at the last stage of assembly

Ideally it would levitate but levitation is hard so this will likely be achieved using stand that plugs into the mains and generates some powerful magnetic fields. You'll be able to connect two pairs of bluetooth earphones and you can watch House of Dragon on your side while your SO watches some lighthearted chick flick on the other side of the phone while the phone is being levitated by magnets.

    Will it be a hit?

Nah. The evolution is see through phones next with AR functionality, something akin to the Hand Terminal in The Expanse. A flat piece of Perspex looking stuff that lights up and pops up info into the air. Can seamlessly communicate with devices around it, "throwing" it around to connect to other devices.

After that, I reckon will be eyeball integration, or android eyes or something like that. Good few years away.

Current folding screen phones are , still, a gimmick and too expensive for most people. Plus not being utilised correctly. So I reckon see-through and AR is the next big. We're getting close.

Everyone already has a mobile phone. What would be the point in having one displaying two different movies, needing a huge battery, and necessitating that the two people sit facing each other? Other than some train seats or a dining table, when do people habitually sit like that? Each person can already watch whatever they want on their own devices completely independently.

People will see that feature in a keynote speech by Tim Cook/Samsung bigshot and go "oh wow I must have" despite the lack of practical use.

Also there are unexpected advantages such as when the wielder of said phone is taking a picture the people who are going to be in the picture can also see a preview of what it's going to look like

    Basically this.

Putin is a dictator. Putin should face justice at the Hague. All good Russians should work to depose Putin. Russias war in Ukraine is illegal and morally wrong.

The phone screen will eventually be commonly integrated into a contact lense. Mojo Vision have a working prototype already.
